The 7 Last Words of Jesus on the Cross.

The pulpit of the cross brings great transformation and deeper connection to our Lord, one another and bringing more compassion to the world around us. May we find peace, comfort and joy in the journey with Jesus. -Donna Cassity

March 5           6-7 p.m.          “Father, Forgive Them” Luke 23:34

         An unselfish prayer. Who is ‘them’? What does it mean to forgive?

March 12         6-7 p.m.           “This day you will Be with Me in Paradise” Luke 23:43

Scripture is fulfilled. Insults from a dying criminal. Remember me in your kingdom. Is the thief saved? Deathbed conversions? Soul sleep. Faith and promise.

March 19         6-7 p.m.           “Woman, Behold Your Son” John 19:26-27

Jesus’ mother at the foot of the cross. The other woman. The disciple whom Jesus loved. Woman, here is your son. The love a son for his mother. What is this teaching us from the cross? What does that third word mean?

March 26         6-7 p.m.           “My God, My God, Why have you Forsaken Me? Mark 15:34

Six hours on the cross. Darkness over the land that can be felt. Crying in a loud voice. Eloi, Eloi…why? The cry of desolation. Why is Jesus cut off from God? The lamb of God. The Garden of Gethsemane. Darkness. Horror. Forsakenness…what is the meaning of this?

April 2              6-7 p.m.           “I Thirst” John 19:28

The fulfillment of scripture. The wine offering. The second wine vinegar offering (Posca). The sponge. A man like no other. The hyssop. Receiving the Posca. What does this tell us?

April 9              7 p.m.  Maundy Thursday Service and Bible Study

                                    “It is Finished” John 19:30

                                    “Father, Into Your Hands I Commit my Spirit” Luke 23:46

What did Jesus accomplish? The cup and the Baptism. A cry of victory. What do we learn from ‘it is finished’? Temple curtain torn. Jesus Final Word.
